This is what iboats is selling as the "for Volvo" replacement.

I went to pick up my winterizing supplies from the dealer and they tried to give me the 10w40 you guys are talking about. I held off and called an Amsoil rep to see if he had syn Sae30, and he pointed me towards their syn 10w40. I would assume that Amsoil still makes Volvo's oil, but the bottles look completely different that they used to(used to be same bottles as Amsoil).

I decided to go with the Amsoil 10w40 hoping it has a similar additive package as the old VP30 just in case they did switch suppliers. What suprised me is I was able to get the Amsoil $1.20 cheaper per qt. that the VP!

I also found they make marine gear lube, and I'm considering switching to it. Any thoughts or experiences with this?

Also looking for some advice here...when I drained my lower unit last year the gear lube was filthy. I would like to do an internal flush to my lower unit but don't know the best way to go about it or if it's even worth it. I was considering filling it with ATF with a high detergent package and running it in gear at idle for 10 min(out of water with muffs). Any ideas or suggestions?

I have been using the Amsoil gear lube for the last 2 years, and haven't had any issues with it. I have also been using the 10w30 version of the oil that Bliss is using for the last 2 years, as that is what my salesman recommended. Not that the volvo is 10W-40, I may switch to that next fall.

I still don't like the idea of a multi-vis oil in a marine sterndrive application. Volvo's oil recommendations have changed a lot over the years and they don't seem to be able to make up their minds. I look at what Merc has recommended over the years and it was 30 or 40 depending on ambient temps, then they came out with their 25/40 which eliminated the issue with 2 different viscosities depending on temp. I still use straight weights because I feel they hold their viscosity better, syn oil or conventional. I use straight 40 in my 24 year old 4.3 and it still has a hot slow idle oil pressure reading of 20 or so which is very good....
