Volvo makes a lot of serviceable parts non serviceable. The power steering ram seals is one of those. |

Only non-serviceable if you want to buy the standard industrial parts from VP ! They haven't got smart enough (yet) to make their unique assemblies impossible to dismantle; that will come soon I expect. Just like automotive OEMs Don't you remember the non adjustable automotive carbs from the late 1970s, with a dealer only plug over the idle adjusting screw ? Or the 3.5mm socket head size bolts VW invented so only their dealers could fit/ adjust new points? ................and in the 1980s Ford Europe invented the 7mm socket head screw, so only their dealers could fit new front brake pads. No reason at all apart from maximising profit. |

Honestly I wish OMC was still in business, I've had great luck with the Cobra and once I learned how to set up the somewhat tricky shift linkage its been great esp for 25 years old! I am not a fan of some of the modern designs be they sterndrives (Cat Converters is one) or some aspects of modern outboards (complex, expensive parts). BTW OMC/Bombardier still sells a trim ram repair kit so you can fix leaky seals in them. |
