Got my temp sensor today...came sooner than expected. Just waiting on the new temp gage so I can check both things when I can get to the boat this weekend.

Interesting when I measured the resistance through the sensors at room temperature that I got different numbers.

Old sensor: 350
New sensor: 850

Well hopefully that means that you found the problem!

So Faria gives:
450 ohms at 100F
99 ohms at 175F
29.6 ohms at 250F

Would have been nice to give the number for 212F (boiling water at sea level) for easy checking. We once calculated that it would be 53 ohms at 212F

Got to the boat this morning and good news! I installed the new water temp sensor and hooked up the 2nd auxillary temp gage with some test leads. Started up the boat and let it warm up. Used the IR gun to take readings and both the dash gage and the extra gauge read the same temp and agreed with the sensor.

So in the end I did have a bad water temp sensor. My test of measuring the resistance when at room temperature was the proper way to diagnose this issue.

Now we can get this thing in the water (after i fix the horn).

Good work see all you need is some simple diagnostic tools (ohmmeter and IR temp gun)....
