I have a H200 with 4.3 Volvo Penta. Dealer has repaired/rebuilt my outdrive due to a bad oil change that I may have done.. I used to be able to go around 50mph running I believe was 4500-4800 RPMs. I now can barely hit 30MPH and revving at 5200 RPMs.. I still have lots of movement in my throttle but I am very leery of running the motor too high and do more damage.
Recently i had 4 people in my boat and tried to get up to speed I hit 6000 RPM's. I obviously dropped back to get to around 4800 RPMs, but was going pretty slow. The high temp alarm went off a few weeks ago while trolling as well, I'm not sure if this is all associated with the High RPM's or not.
Does anyone have any idea's?

thanks
-Dave

First thing that comes to mind is did they mix your prop up with someone else's while they were working on your drive?

I am pretty sure you would hit a rev limiter before 6000 RPM. Are you sure your tachometer is accurate and is on the correct cylinder setting?

An older 4.3GL would not have a rev limiter...

At 6K, his valves would've looked like these guys:

Thanks for the tips... I went underneath the dash and looked at the wiring. The ones going to the tach were rather loose. I could wiggle them with no resistance. I tightened the nut, started it up and tach was back to normal. I took it out for a test ride, 4200 RPM's at 45mph.
What a stressful event! Thanks everyone for your input.

I had a similar problem, hitting high revs and low speed. I had a spare new prop I changes and also went under the dash and found loose wires as you described on the tacho, tightens them up and I also topped up with 20 gal premium 93 octane because I had a tank full of gas during winter, (although winterized properly). Now back to normal. Loose wires I guess. First time I have checked them in 5 yrs of owning the boat from new. Good luck.
