Hey Guys

well I am getting my 1990 170 Freedom "de-winterized" today (yeah I know it's almost July)..anyway, We've washed and waxed her, I checked my engine oil (which I changed last fall)..and it's good. I put the lower unit down, and the oil level is just barely touching the little dipstick at the top of the unit. Should I just top up in the dipstick hole, or top up using the pump in the lowest hole? or should I just drain it all, and refill? How much to refill the OMC Cobra outdrive??

Dan

If its touching the bottom of the dipstick, you can add it through the dip stick hole till it reads full on the dipstick (that notch that goes round the dipstick). As far as changing it, did you do that in the fall? If so its fine.

Lou.

I didn't do it in the fall, as I put the new lower unit on it in Late July..and took the boat out twice in August, and that was it....The fluid in the outdrive is still a bluish/green color. Just a tad low, like I said..I think I'll top up to the notch on the dipstick and call it good.

That's fine, I do remember you having to do that. When I change mine I do it the above way, and let it sit for a while and re-check. Usually I have to add a small amount.
