If I do the new engine I will definitely install a remote oil filter and full closed cooling. This will normal maintenance and winterizing much easier not having to remove the block drains, lay down next the engine to change the oil filter, etc. While I have wanted an outboard boat for years, the re-power cost on them is daunting. A closed cooled inboard I feel will last as long or longer.

Lou...

Wondering how things are going with the rebuild? Did you decide on using the old block or go entirely with a different unit?

Hope all's well and you're on the water soon.

I consulted with a mechanic and a guy who works in a local soeed shop and both thought it was worth trying to use the old block with re man heads. So I got all the parts and am painting them this weekend. We'll give it a shot since the cost is much less than the new engine due to not having to pay to get the old one pulled and the new one installed. I always wanted to try this anyway so it'll be a learning experience. Have not had much time to work on it....

Best of luck, my friend. Can't wait to hear the good news that she fires up and runs beautifully.

As far as the lack of time thing, I hear you loud and ckear.

Hey, Lou...

Any updates on your rebuild experience? Did the engine still have life in it after all, or were you forced into doing a full replacement...?

Wishing you good luck on this.

Bob

I've been working on rounding up all the odds and ends and learning how to restore the mating surfaces of the old intake so it will seal properly. The hand labor that goes into one of these jobs is quite substantial. I'm going to try to get it up and running in a couple of weeks...
