I recently picked up the spilled has twin motors and when I test drove it the motors ran at 145°
So everything is been checked and fixed on the boat new circulating pump, the boat motors are running excellent. I replaced both thermostats to 165° thermostats but when in the water today and just idling around the motors got up to just under 140° and when I was cruising down the river the temperature would drop to 120°

They would not get any warmer but they both ran absolutely perfect. The water hole in the thermostat housing is completely open on both of them

One thing you can do to verify the temps is to get an IR temp gun and check the temp on the intake manifold right below the thermostat housing. This spot on the GM V8 and V6 engines gives a closer read on the actual engine temps than where the sending unit is in the intake on some of these. I have found that the reading there, at least on mine is about 10*F lower than the dash gauge consistently. I usually get about 145-150 there with a properly functioning thermostat and a fully warmed up engine. If you get this, then the gauge may be reading low. Keep in mind if you take a reading on the top of the thermo housing it will read lower, like 135 or so.
