Hello,
last year my outdrive (OMC SX) had to be repainted. There a some outdrive paints available on the market. I tested the paint and the primer from Quicksilver and the VP on aliminium plates. I put them into a water barrel for three month. After that time I recognized, that all plates got bubbles underneath the paint. After internet research I found out, that the one-component acrylic enamel paint are not very long lasting, when they stay permanent under water. I think just for touch up they are okay on an outboard drive.
I switched to a two component epoxy primer and a two component polyurethane paint with a UV resistant hardnener.
This year the boat stays the whole season in the water and the SX looks still like new painted. As a conclusion, the one component spray paints are just good for touch up if its a trailerd boat. If the boat is in the water for the whole season, you should use stronger paints.
