Hi im new at being a boat mechanic so am asking a couple questions to see if im heading in the rite dirrection.

First question can I use the blk silicone that comes in a tube to seal the wet exhaust riser elbo gaskets ?

Second question im replacing the gear lube in my omc outdrives and wanting to use synthetic I picked up some volvo/pinta 75 - 90 wt synthetic did I get the correct oil ?

The boat is an 88 liberator with twin 460 Ford King Cobras and OMC outdrives

Hi Gregg,

Hope it's all going well...

The VP synthetic lube is fine as long as it's GEAR lube (75W-90 IS gear lube.....Some VP drives didn't use gear lube I think)

Riser gaskets usually don't use sealant (at least on a Mercruiser)

The OMC service manual doesn't mention any type of sealant on the riser gasket. If you have riser gaskets that have a silvery coating on them they go on dry.

Cheers,

Rick

Thanks Rick
I just got all the parts and havent looked at them yet looks like the oil is good to go wich brings up another problem 1 source says 72 oz another says 108 guess I will find out soon enough ?

It looks like 1 of the riser has a bluish silicone on it mabe it was used instead of a gasket again will see when I take it apart.

I should have it out for the 4th of July week I will let you know how it went.

Thanks Again Take Care Gregg
