Hi Guys, I have an '89 318 Vista, twin 5 liter Chev's, needing to replace the starboard lower unit. Are the two drives counter rotating, and a V6 and V6 lower units the same?
Thanks, Dave

One the Cobra the counter rotating is done in the lower unit, the uppers should be identical. In my OMC manual it states that they recommend that the counter rotating drive be installed on the port side, but I don't know if FW installed them this way. The small block V-8 and V-6 did use the same lower unit, and the 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7 all used the same gear ratios in the lower (14:26) but the ratio in the upper units is different for each engine.
