We just got back from an awesome week at Table Rock Lake. My 1995 220 Horizon ran great. The only thing that seemed odd was the tachometer would vary about 500 rpms. A couple times I would be running about 3000 rpms and it would drop down to 2500 rpms, then back up to 3000 rpms. While idling it would vary between 600 rpms and 1100 rpms. Then while running at WOT it would jump from 4800 rpms to 5300 rpms. It did not do it all the time, it would run at the lower rpms part the day and then the higher reading the rest of the day.
I gotta say, I think the lower rpms were more accurate. Here is why, the motor did not change speed or rpms and ran great. It also did not seem to be over revving.
Comparing the speed to rpms. When the Tach showed the lower reading the speed almost matched the rpms. 2500 rpms = 21 mphs, 4800 rpms = 48 mphs.
It has a 5.8L EFI with a 21 pitch stainless steel prop.
Any ideas?
