Post subject:  Hard starting 5.8 OMC

Hi all
I have a 1992 Sundowner 205 with the 5.8 OMC drive and am extremely happy with the boat. (I'm the 2nd owner).
Lately, I've been having trouble starting the engine which seems to be a result of the 4bbl Holley carb not getting primed.
The choke plate is properly adjusted and works fine.
What I've had to do so as to minimize the wear & tear on my batteries and starter, is to remove the air filter/flame arrestor, pour about 1 oz of gas down the carb, and replace the filter/arrestor unit before even trying to crank it over. This way it starts instantly and runs great the rest of the day.
The fuel filter has also been replaced. I have NOT done a pressure test on the fuel pump but since it runs fine once started, I don't think that's the problem area.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and Happy Holidays
Bernd

Yes! No problem at all.
The boat sits for a bit between uses, like up to a month.
