Welcome! Sounds like a crock to me. You can get a car one for a couple of hundred bucks.
I don't know if you can replace it with one or not. I would get more than one opinion if it was me for that
kind of money. On a car system, it would be a censor problem, not the Computer.

I would get a second opinion Josh. Welcome!! Surely there is a way to pull the codes. Could be just the TPS.

If you're DIY.... http://www.rinda.com/marine/marinemenu.htm

I just bought the hand-held to evaluate some "pinging" at WOT after two trips to the dealer, about $2000 and no results.

Sorry to here about your problem. When you "idle problem", what is happening or not happening?? It could be bad fuel, clogged filter, one bad spark plug wire, cap & rotor..................... These are some of the simplest things to look at first!!

Did you stabilizer and a water absorber to the fuel last fall??

2 different computer systems between a car and boat. there are places that repair computers but its pretty rare that the computers go, I think in 19 years of marine experience I have replaced maybe 3. how was it diagnosed that your computer was bad?

I see this is an old post, but I had to replace a ecm in mine this yr. The hardest part is getting a straight answer from anyone. I even shipped it to a guy in Cal. that reprograms ecms. Got different answers from everyone. I replaced a mefi 3 with mefi 4. You don't have to buy a whole new wiring harness, even though Four Winns will be happy to sell you one. You can actually repin the ecm connectors to work with the new mefi 4. The whole thing cost just under $800, but the boat runs great again.
