Can anyone please tell me where the oil drain is on the dual prop SX outdrive for this engine? Could you also confirm that 75W-90 is the recommended oil?

The SX is a single prop, assume you mean the DP (Dual Prop), the lower plug is located on the carrier behind the props.

Yep, on that boat, with that engine it should not be an SX drive. You need the prop nut tool to pull the props off to change the gear lube.

Good idea to get a new o-ring when you buy the lube and prop wrench.
Plus to pump the oil in you will need the adapter if you don't already have it, Part # 3855932
Get it here: http://www.marinepartsexpress.com:8080/ ... .y=0&Go=Go
90W for the lube is fine.

That's where I'm confused. On the Volvo site, SX is a single prop, yet the lable on my dual prop outdrive CLEARLY says SX. I don't get it.

It HAS to be a DPS because there is no drain plug as indicated in your picture of an SX. I still don't get why the lable says SX, though.

Thanks, Cap'n!

The SX and DPS have common upper units as far as the external casting and the plastic shift cover are concerned; it's only the lower units that differ.

The labels are all on the upper units/ cover. Maybe a defective upper unit has been swapped out sometime or a missing "DP" labelled cover replaced with one with a "SX" label on it.

+1 on having to take off the dual props, if you want to see some pictures of the tools and props coming off of my boat look for the thread named
Pulling my Duoprop UGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! HORRIBLE!@!!@#HELP!!!

It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be especially considering it was my first time doing anything with the props. I was reading in some places that you can fashion your own tool and will tell you don't waste your time the parts to take off the props were at most 30 dollars and the spline grease was less than 10. I haven't emptied the gear oil since it started raining but I am going to do just that this weekend so if you haven't tackled the gear oil change I will post pictures of me doing exactly that. Good luck and check out the thread I have some cool bikini contest pics at the end to celebrate my victory over the props
