How does the Jeep handle pulling your boat? i have a 2004 4.0 grand cherokee that tows a h180. The Jeep does it's job but not well some times on hills.

It's done pretty well for the short drive we have to the lake, only about 15-30 minutes away depending on which ramp we go to. Our Jeep is rated for 5,000 lbs. and with our boat coming in at 4,100 + the trailer we are max'd out. I wouldn't use the Jeep to take the boat to the coast, about 2.5 hours away, but for the short trips to the lake it's doing fine. I had a little sway going on at 60 mph and since I've situated the boat properly on the trailer it has gone away. We're good up to about 70 mph. I stay out of overdrive and I want to switch the Jeep over to synthetic fluids before next season. I can see where it would have some trouble on some hilly terain.

I did add a brake control module as well as a trasmission fluid cooler to the Jeep.

How much sag do you get on the back end when towing the boat? And are you sure your 235 is only 4100 pounds. My dad used to have one of those and that is a BIG 23' boat. I ask as we just sold our 2002 GC. It did fine pulling our 200 230 Horizon. But the back end sagged a lot. Of course our boat loaded on the trailer was pushing 6,500 pounds. With the big V8, our Jeep was rated to tow 6,500 pounds. We loved the Jeep, but with twins on the way we needed a bigger vehicle...we ended up buying a Nissan Armada.

No severe sag observed yet. It actually sits and rides really well I think. I did put new rear shocks on the Jeep this summer. Nothing heavy duty, just Napa Response shocks. The 4100 lb. figure is from the owners manual and other information from the FW site. They say with the 5.7L motor it's 4100lbs. dry. Add the alum. trailer, some fuel and water and were max'd on the Jeep capacity rating in the manual of 5,000 lbs.
