When I searched through the owners manual, I could find where IF it was equipped with the HD towing package...it would need an additional wiring harness and relay installed (and my F250 was this way too)...in order to integrate an electronic brake controller into the factory wiring harness.

Since mine does not have the HD package, I could not find anything that indicated an additional relay...but I still am somewhat convinced that is the case also.

In addition to that...trailer wiring is sort of an industry standard and we know the blue wire IS the "standard" for the trailer brake lockout solenoid. As such...the wire on the truck side was also blue, which makes me further think I have it wired properly. I will give a call to the Ford store today and see if I can get some info figured out.

I have an 06 expedition with the same set up. I discovered that the blue wire in the trailer wasnt hooked up to anything and it was only there incase i added the electric brakes so the 4 prong is all i needed.

Does your trailer not have a 5 flat plug (meaning it has surge brakes)?

The trailer has a 5 prong plug but the last prong is hooked up to the blue wire which ends about 2 feet into the trailer because i only have surge brakes not electric. The expedition has only 4 prongs so that 5th prong just hangs off when i plug them in.

I am very happy with the expedition and the one i chose except for the fact that it doesnt have the HD tow package. The set up works great now but when i upgrade my boat i will need to address it.

I thought i read that you had surge breaks but after rereading the post it sounds like you have electric so my explanation above probably wasnt much of a help. Best of luck figuring it all out.

My trailer DOES have surge brakes. Surge brake systems have a brake solenoid in them that when voltage is applied (when you put it in reverse) it disables the brake system so you can back the trailer up.

I see. Mine trailer is a little different. I have to put the pin into the side of the trailer when i am backing up a hill to avoid the brakes from engaging. If I am backing down it is not required.

Ours works the same...I just dont want to have to put the pin in the side slot.

If you guys both have newer stock FourWinns trailers then you guys do have the back up solenoid actuator installed in the tongue or your trailer, And it should be working as long as everything is set up right.
You should go see your boat dealer for help.

I don't have a trailer problem.

I have a truck problem.

I've spoken to my buddy that runs Roadrunner Trailers...I have the wire connected incorrectly on my truck. I need to tap into the reverse light wire and it will work. I was simply mistaken for what the blue wire on my truck would do.

Yep, for electric brakes. You can put in a relay and the truck is pre-wired for that

On the 180 Trailer, no lockout solenoid. I went through this whole process when I got our boat. Only option is the pin if needed. Apparently as these are drum brakes, not disk (On the 180) they are supposed to be free backing brakes. I only use the pin when backing up a hill.
