Hi from Australia

Am looking to import a 2006 horizon 240 on a sure load/four winns trailer and am needing to find out a couple of things. Firstly the width of the trailer that it's on, I'm hoping that it 98inches wide as it is an Austrailian requirement that the trailer be no wider than 2.5 metres or 98 inches and are the fenders bolted or welded on. could I cut the excess down to 98 inches? secondly it has a volvo 5.7 gi, is this 280hp or 300hp, is there much difference between the two horsepowers for a boat of this size?

If someone could help me out that would be greatly appreciated,
Owners have the best info
Cheers

Hi Morty,

I have recently imported a Horizon RS 180 which also came on the crappy Four Winns steel trailer.
My trailer's maximum width from guard to guard is 2480mm wide.
The guards are welded on to the chassis, as they have integrated steps & high mounted skids (to aid in retreiving your boat at the ramp).
Where in Oz are you?

Daz.

Hi Daz

Thanks for the info. What's the beam on yours is it 8'6"? How was your import process, was it relatively painless, I keep hearing mixed stories. You happy with yours?
I'm an hour out of Sydney

My Horizon RS has an 8 foot beam and a chine width of 1930mm.
If it's costing you anything over $1500 for the trailer to be brought over, I'd seriously consider buying a GALVANIZED one, locally.
Bearings, seals, brakes etc are not as readily available for these USA trailers as Aussie made gear.
There are a stack of cowboys importing boats in to Oz.
Typical Ozzie attitude of mediocre care - no responsibility.
Ensure (I mean this!) you get a formal quotation from them outlining EVERY cost you will be liable for.
Unfortunately, I did not do this.

to help answer the engine question

I have a 2003 240 H --- with the 5.7 Gi --- 280 HP
the boat -- particularily with the Duoprop (which I do not think you mentioned one way or the other) has nice power for all watersports.
I know the 320 HP will run faster on the top end -- but probably not much quicker for cruising or getting on plane.

I have no more info on the trailers as I am in salt water and did not buy my boat with a trailer.
My trailer is an aftermarket galvanized trailer.
