At that weight I'd strongly consider electric/hydraulic brakes, and a WD hitch. Even with a 3/4 ton truck.

100% agree with the electric over hydraulic brakes (have them on current, and last boat). The WD hitch needs, would depend a lot on the trailer too.. My current boat, I don't use one, and it's very comfortable to drive, and pulls straight with minimal bounce, and no sway. The trailer was custom built for the boat, and is balanced pretty well, admittedly, the dually probably helps with the comfort/stability as well, but my 290 I pulled before with the 3/4 was just as comfortable a ride with no additional equipment, other than a nice, well balanced triple axle trailer.. Just from the for what it's worth department... :)

Have not made a decision yet at this time but I do have an appointment with ford this coming week and seeing what they are offering.

Another question. My current vehicle without towing on a good day maybe 14 mpg usually 12 mpg. I have heard on a diesel they average 17+ mpg. Does the mpg go up when the motor is broken in? Is that true? What mileage are all of you averaging when not towing/ and towing?

Thank you again.

As far as MPG, the deisels aren't what they used to be thanks to government regulations. I used to get up to 22 MPG on my cummins 5.9. Now your looking at around 17 with any of them. Depending on load it would drop to around 12 to 14.

I know your looking for knew, but I will say to all to stay away from the 6.0 or 6.4 Fords...they really are horrible and its a matter of time before they kill you with repairs. Both are failure designs and that comes from ford service. Mine racked up over $10,000 repairs in one year at 70k miles. I'm waiting on the settlement payment on the class action. Mine was the 2004 6.0.

My brother has the new ford design and likes it...I think all 3 makers have the diesel regulations figured out but sure pass the cost of calculating on to us all. The new rams are fine machines and your cheating yourself to not check them out....with up to 30,000 lb tow rating on the big boy dually....interiors are nice.

I personally never cared for Chevy so never had one...

I have the 2008 Chevy Duramax, and love it. It tows great, lots of power, and never been back to the dealer. But I like chevy. My son has a 2012 Ford with the 6.2 gas engine and hates it.

I will add that I never heard anyone with the duramax have major issues and I know several who run them to pull stock and custom horse camper trailers...heavy stuff. Its the looks of the Chevy I personally don't care for. Just personal preference. Something about the semi flare rear fenders and low slung frame railing I don't care for.

My advice would be to get the new ford with a cummins motor and the Chevy tyranny. Dreamtruck

Ever since the 5.0 engine I have said no more Fords. I would not touch them.

Ram would be your first choice. GM a fairly distant second.

You'll love it! A good friend recently purchased a new Ram with the Cummins. It's a very quick truck -- almost as fast as my hot rodded '98 24-valve, and his is bone stock. He has all the amenities for towing though; exhaust brake, rear cam, etc. Very comfy and stylish on the inside!
