I figured i would share a fairly simple practice with everyone. On side 2 i will take detailed photos of the entire disassembly to illustrate to those that are new to this.

Basically your wheel bolts to a hub, this hub has 2 sets of bearings that it connects to the shaft and rides on giving you a smooth ride. The cavity containing the shaft and the bearings is filled with grease and contained via a set of seals.

I will be rebuilding both hubs and adding a new set of Bearing Buddys as one was missing. What Bearing Buddys are is a special cap that goes into the outside flange of the hub and protrudes out thru the wheel. The cap has a zerk fitting that a grease gun can quick connect to so that you do not have to pack the hub with grease the traditional way. The Bearing Budy magic is in the simplistic design. It has an inner face plate that is pressed inward towards the bearings by a spring. When you fill the hub up with grease the spring depresses. This extra grease is later pressed into any void if you have compaction or deterioration of grease over time or a small leak. So you have the security of pressurized grease in your hub at all times. Now when you for your total boat maintenance of greasing the out drive you can easily toss a few pumps of grease into the wheel hubs at the same time. They save time and protect your hubs.

I need to replace the inner seal on my 6000 lb turbo lube hub, I have the seals already, just haven't had the time to do it yet. Thanks for posting and reminding me :)

Did you reuse the inner and outter race? Can you remove them without damage?

Yes I reused them as they were smooth and still good. They are press in and press out races. I'm sure the best service they will be replaced, but after inspection I determined that they were on par with the new races.

IMO every trailer boater should go through this exercise at least once, even if it isn't needed (since eventually it will be). Good write up.
