I'm cleaning up the rust on the side supports. I just put stainless washers and nuts on them, and low and behold the supports are rusting. Out came the grinder, and then the primer. I can't find any paint at Lowes or any local stores that matches whats on the trailer. Do I need to go to a paint store and have them color match it? Would my local dealer carry matching paint? The boats green, and I've tried three different brands of "hunter green" and they are all too light...

You can order the matching paint through a Four Winns dealer (in a spray can).

I went to my local automotive paint supply store and had them match it!! I took the spair tire holder in to have them look/match vs the entire trailer.
I don't know what FW will charge, but I paid approx. 9-10 bucks per can. Matched very well.

Was it the same PPG paint? I paid $25 at the dealer per can.

PPG????? :?

Dont know what PPG paint is, told supplier that its for a boat trailer. It has been on trailer now for almost a season in some spots and holding up and looking good. Infact I have been back to buy another can to do some more touch ups to keep trailer looking good.

PPG is a brand of paint (IMHO one of the best) I prefer it over Dupont.

Is grinding the rust off the only option to remove rust or is there a chemical that will treat it?

There's naval jelly and rust converter paint. Still nothing like removing the rust and starting from bare metal. If there is any rust left, it will come back.

Did they give you the mix ratios? I need the same colour as you. I tried several different shades and brands and have yet to come up with anything close "off the shelf". Did you buy a quart, gallon or spray bomb?

Four Winns calls it Polo Green I believe.

No, but I've got the part number in the filing cabinet and I think a brand new, unused spray can in the garage from FW. It's an actual FW part, from my dealer. I'll try and get you the part # tonight, actually might have my boat sold, so I'll check and see if the can in the garage is new or not.

FW Part # 005-1230. I've still got a brand new can, I've got some left in the 1st can I used. I ordered up a spare from Winnisquam when I order other parts from them just so I'd have it and not have to pay other shipping charges. Send me a PM if you want it...I might have my boat sold.
