I think he did.

Glad to hear you are liking them. I put them on about 2 months ago, and never got a chance to tow with them. I took them off before I sold my Durango. $80 down the drain.

Yes, I did.

'06 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. Quad Cab, short bed, every option short of leather and navigation. Going to get Line-X'd Monday, can't stand the drop in that it has. Has a Mopar snapless tonnuea cover, and Westin step bars. I wish they were stainless but that swap will have to wait. Barely broken in with 29k miles, it has the Hemi though. Amazing how much bigger than my Durango. It should tow the 268 nicely, and it can tow your 290 also Bill!

congrads on the new ride/tow vehicle. You will be amazed at what a difference it will make towing your boat. IMHO, SUV's are NOT for towing, good for hauling family, thats all.

Congratulations Joe!
Excellent Decision.
I don't think you'll regret your decision to buy the gasser versus the diesel. The extra cost in fuel won't add up to the added maintenance and replacement cost that a diesel will incur.

Nice! That would be quite the sight with you towing your 268 and tandeming my 290 behind it. ;)

That is against the rules to put a SR behind a FW

Nicely done! That will do a much better job towing your boat.

Just thought I would update the group. Here's my new tow vehicle, a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. I lost a few features that I had with my Durango, but oh well. The thing I figured I'd miss the most is the automatic climate control, but I found that the manual method lets me get some really hot or really cold air direct from the vents, whereas the automatic always blended it. My moonroof and leather will be missed, although I steam cleaned my seats with my carpet steamer and hit them with some 303 Fabric Guard so they will be good for a while.

I'm amazed at how it tows the boat. There are 30 MPH wind gusts today, and I had a 10 minute drive on the expressway after picking up the boat from winter storage. It would have been white knuckles at 55 MPH in the Durango, the boat swaying even with the Equalizer hitch.

Image

In the 2500, the boat never moved, not even while passing an oncoming semi on a 2-lane road. 65 MPH cruise on, and she stayed put. I'd compare it to towing my Sea Ray 185 behind my '99 Durango. Very worthwhile upgrade!

Now if only I can squeeze it in the garage I'll be set.

Looks great! How much is the towing capacity on the 2500 compared to a Durango?

My old Durango was 8700lbs.

The 2500 is 11,700, or 13k if I had the diesel.

I believe the F250s I looked at all said 12,500lbs on the hitch.

Nice. I'm still kicking around getting an old school 7.3 powerstoke for mine. Thinking I may go dually if the only time I'll likely drive it is to tow the boat. But going to see how renting a truck this year works out. Can't beat a brand new F250 diesel from Enterprise truck rental for $39/ per day with 100 free miles per day.

If I slipped I'd do the Enterprise route you found. No sense in the upkeep and insurance cost on a truck just to tow a handful of times a year, plus you'd be in a NEW truck! For me it was a no brainer...now if only it'll fit in the garage!
