When my Dad took the trailer to Boston to pickup the Vista he blew a tire...Last week I noticed the treads are delaminating from the other front tire and the back two are splitting/cracking between the treads. So.....I am shopping for new tires for the H260's trailer and have found a deal on rims and tires but the tires are bias ply. The current tires are radial. I don't plan to pull the trailer that much but the next guy might... The trailer has made three trips to the East coast (8 + hours each way) and who knows how much it was used before I bought it and whether or not these are the original tires.

I know you shouldn't mix the two types. I spoke to my Dad who had a 30 foot camper trailer that had bias on it and he changed to radials. He found no big difference in the way it hauled.

I can buy new rims and bias tires for less than the price the local tire shop wants for just radial tires! My rims are a little rusty so some new ones would look nice.
The vendor is telling me that the bias are better for trailers because if you overload them they don't have belts to strech and tear.

Anybody have any opinions?

I had a blow out on my radial tire last summer in the middle of nowhere and no spare. I also switched to Bias ply and have noticed zero difference in towing. I'd be interested in knowing why people push for radials when they are much more expensive and don't show any measurable difference to the average person that trailers. Maybe it's just me...

Bias ply are yesteryears tires, I did not know that you could still buy them! Ok, I know they are still available, but why would you want to use them???? Radials are the STD now. That is all I have ever use for the last 15 years, on our various trailers ranging from small utility, PWC, boat all the way upto 14,000 lbs 5th wheel.

If you can buy them for cheap and feel good about running them, along with that, all the tire specs match or exceed current tire..... Go ahead and give em a try

I think I am going to order 5 so I have a spare and that will only cost me about $100 over local pricing. I know they are "old school" but it won't hurt to try them. The new rims and tires will give the boat a little more curb appeal too.
