I was thinking most if not all FW trailers had 6 lug on 5.5 wheels. Over in the horizon forum, Kvou812 pointed out that he has 5 lug on his '08 duel axle trailer. So let's see what the consenus is...

This poll is biased! Only one vote per user!? My '04 225 had 5 lugs, my '04 268 has 6 lugs.

Sorry, I didn't account for multiple trailers. Updated the poll so you can vote 2x, but now we have to run on the honor system :D

Wow, when I said maybe we should take a poll you took me seriously didn't you? :D

Over on the Funship forum, JCF204 joined us. He has F204 like mine but his is an 09', and his trailer is identical to mine - duel axle, 5 lug, disc brakes, LED lights, etc.

Now I'm wondering what determines if a particular boat or trailer gets the 5 or 6 lug wheels... or if its just whatever is available at the factory at any given time.

That's my guess. If there's any logic behind it, it may simply be that 5-lug equipment is a little easier to find. Some of the brake hardware might be cheaper for them to buy in the 5-lug version.

My 1997 dual axle has 5 lugs. It came from the factory with aluminum wheels, don't know if the wheel type would make a differnce.

5 bolt axles are generally limited to 3500 lbs axles (maximum). I suspect that if you're boat can safely be transported on tandem 3,500 lbs axles they are using them. The 6 bolt axles are good for 5200 lbs.
The 5 bolts are cheaper than the 6 bolts so I can speculate FW was using the best economical fit that will serve the load (with a factor of safety).
Remember most of you guys have requested a tandem trailer that could have gotten away with a single so why would they give you all the extra heavy stuff when it's not required to carry the load of your boat?

My previous 1998 H200 had a single 6 bolt axle (I suspect a single 5 bolt wouldn't have been sufficient), my H260 has a tandem set of 6 bolts.

Dual 6 lug...does it have anything to do with the weight? Over a certain weight then 6 lug?

Single axle... 6 lug bots (I wish Four Winns would use hub assemblies with studs!... I much prefer lug nuts instead of bolts)

Amazingly, there seems to be enough interest in this topic. Apparently, we all have the same disease

BTW, my trailer is a '99 single axle.
