any one thought of/used/ or recommend using that composite decking material for bunks instead of wood? is that stuff strong enough to support the weight of a boat (2005 214 Funship) like wood would? can you still carpet it like wood bunks?

also, is stainless steel the way to go for bolts on the trailer (mainly salt water use) or are galvanized ok?

i need to replace all my bolts on the bunks and will change the bunks and carpet as well. any help/thoughts would be appreciated.

I know they dont have the structural strength to use for patio covers. Based on that, I would be leery of them holding the weight of a Funship...

thanks, that's what i was afraid of. after doing some research on it i found that stuff to be more trouble than its worth. supposedly it swells, warps and mildews, all of which they claim it's not supposed to do. i'll stick with lumber!

I put new bunks on my last trailer a few years back. Used marine grade lumber and monel staples for the carpet attatchment. Stainleess bolts was the way I went, a little more $$ but worth it as far as I,m concerned. Once the project was done, it was done. When I sold the boat it looked like I had just completed the job a few days earlier.
