Well, after nearly 3 years of use, I have killed about 6-8 teeth of my winch. I guess maybe I have been cranking it too tight in the final few teeth when I winch the boat on. Typically when my wife drives on, I only have to winch up about the last foot or so, so its not like I am dragging the boat much. I have a boat buckle installed on the trailer bow stand as my safety strap, so I am not sure why I was going so hard on it.

Luckily for me, I have am friends with the people that run Roadrunner trailer. I got quite the hook up on a new winch with 4 rows of teeth, instead of the 2 that came on my factory installed Fulton.

I've backed in to retrieve a boat with my trailer where it is impossible to get the boat off on the same ramp (this requires two hands, quite a bit of cranking and loud noises from the boat rubbing on the carpet bunks)... never had a crank go bad, but I have had a winch strap wear out before... thankfully these are available almost anywhere... If a crank went bad that fast (assuming a 2008 trailer), I would say it had to be installed incorrectly or had a defect... these cranks are supposed to be able to handle that...

[disappointment] I thought this thread was going to be one of those, "I finally got rid of her..." stories about a wife or girlfriend.... [/disappointment]
