Not only because it has been recommended...

By whom? My '05 FW manual makes no mention of unplugging. If you have disk brakes, you won't be able to back up if you unplug, unless you manually lockout the actuator. My dealer recommended leaving them connected. Yes, the "waterproof" housings often aren't, but that's a separate issue that should be addressed either by replacing the housings or converting to LED's.

It's habit for me to unplug my trailer each time when I take off the boat covers ect... it's something I've always done. I don't remember ever blowing bulbs or fuses the times I forgot though either. I don't think it's a big deal either way.

I have always unplugged. One, because I read that somewhere  Two, because I use an adapter for my four pin harness and I know eventually some dumbass will think he needs it more than I do. I am switching over to LEDs and think it would be perfectly fine to leave the harness plugged into the tow vehicle. But I'm still undecided about donating my adapter :?

I leave it plugged in. I haven't needed the backup solenoid at all with the 268..I normally back down the ramp with the truck in N or D.

I take off my adapter when I park it though and keep it locked up in the truck.
