Can you tow a tandem axle trailer minus one tire?

I'm not talking any great distance...maybe 4 or 5 miles at 35 mph.

Take it really really easy you should be fine. Better than changing a bearing on the side of the road!

Luckily the Deputy Sheriff who was right behind me was nice enough to run back to the farmhouse nearby and ask if it was alright if I could use their driveway/yard.

I've done it before with my H200 by jacking the bad wheel and securing the axle to he frame with a chain in order to keep the hub off the ground. The wheel should be removed to lessen the risk of it coming off should you break the castle nut. Been there done that.

As Cincy says, you sometimes have to find a method to keep the sagging axle off the ground, and the spring on the other axle on that side might be so depressed that it hits the frame. All this can be handled with some chains/wood blocks --etc --- but you might have to do a few things.

About two years ago I had a spindle break off when I hit a curb very very slightly -- (love that salt water corrosion here) I did the chain and blocking and drove it slowly about 20 miles to a place a welder put a new spindle on.

It can be done, as I said, but you may have to make a few adjustment to make it work.
