Keep in mind that, if you switch from drum brakes to discs, you have to add a section of flex line right before the caliper, because disc brake calipers have to flex slightly when the brakes are applied/released, drum brakes do not require this (but it makes the installation much easier)..

Interesting...My trailer doesn't have the flex line with the disc brakes. It would have made it quite a bit easier when I replaced the calipers recently!

To my knowledge, none of the FW trailers made in the last 6 years at least have any hoses, other than the section in the folding tongue. They should have flex lines exclusively AFAIC, but in the area where Lou's talking about, they just leave the steel line unsecured to anything, and therefore it flexes.

I think I made the right move-Yes, I could have re-built/replaced the old backers, it would have saved me about 210.00. But to me, what's my time worth?? Just a peek into the dust-cover of the old cylinders...........

It's actually cheaper to by new drum backing plates than to buy the parts to rebuild them, the wheel cylinders alone are $25 each, then you have the shoes and adjuster, while Champion and others sell new complete backing plates for 50-60 bucks....

This is what I did. I think my backing plates were 70 something a piece. A little more expensive b/c there are marine grade. It was well worth the extra money especially since all you do it attach the brake lines, bleed them, and your done!
