My annual 400 miles trip from Boston to 1000 Islands was breeze this year… Traffic was light and only hit thunderstorm on the tail end of the trip. Boat is now on water for summer and trailer is in storage… Here is some of my trick for a distance towing.

Pipe Insulation for window rail protection for Trailer cover.

Use masking tape for protection from cover rubbing.

Oversize Mud Flaps... Works very well.

and make sure to check tire pressure.

Nice job,
I'm wondering if I have the long distance record for every summer. I trailer my Horizon 180 from Florida to Maine every summer. Using a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. Door to door 1400 miles. I flush my surge brake fluid prior to the trip, check pads and lines, repack/grease wheel bearings, and check all lights. For the boat I use the canvas covers snapped on and add a couple bungee cords and have not had any problems. I run the C rated tires at 45 psi as once they heat up they run over the called for 50 psi.
Rob

Wow Rob, that's one heck of a tow, especially on a regular basis. I would say though, if your tires specify 50psi, you should start at that pressure. They're designed to account for the "excess" pressure while running and will run hotter than necessary if underinflated. But, I bow to any who tows 1400 miles each way every year.

Great idea....I stopped after work and picked up my foam pipe insulators.

I tow about 30 miles each way each weekend so this should be a help. I also added 4" chunks on the ends of my poles. The sharp edge of the pole tip was starting to rub thru. Hopefully this adds a bit more life.
