I did some searching around, to see if I could find an LT rated tire, in a size that would work with trailer tire sizes, and I found that the Goodyear Wrangler ATS, in LT 235/75-15 is D rated at 2335 lbs @ 65 psi. $105 each from the Tire Rack. Made in USA. Yes I know some like to hate GY tires but I had 2 sets on the Jeep, ran each for 4 years/35-40K miles and never had a tread separate, sidewall bubble, or other failure. Some of this also was high speed driving for hours on end, so my next upgrade (if I don't get a newer boat) is to upgrade my axle to a 6000 lb unit, 12" brakes and 15" tires. Right now I have a 3500 lb axle and 14 " tires and it's adequate for the very short towing (less than 5 miles a year, seriously, the boat's on a mooing behind my house).....

Mike, try the KUMO's. You will not be disappointed with them what so ever.
You can order them from the tire rack. I was running around with old weather cracked one's that still held up!
I did put new one's on last year and kept a couple for spares.

Good price. Ride great. Don't scuff off badly when backing in tight. I was cutting 90's into my drive at the other house all the time and pushing it sideways. As long as they keep making these, I will not buy another.

Xavid, Where do you see that E rated tires are recommended for your trailer? I have the exact same year / model of boat and my specs call for D rated tires. My trailer is rated at 10k lbs.

I had a belt slip on one of my original (I believe) Carlisle last fall. Fortunately it occurred on the way to have the boat winterized and it held together. I limped home. I also know the PO had a blowout at some point due to one of my wells had some damage on the inside. After everything I have read, I too felt it was time to change them all out. I went with D rated Dynatrail's based on a recommendation from my local mechanic. After reading this thread, I now see they are Chinese tires. I hope I didn't just make a costly mistake. They've already survived one 500 mile round trip to LOTO in one of the hottest weeks in June we've seen it quite a while. Only time will tell now.

That's interesting. I could have sworn I read that E's were recommended when I went thru all the manuals when I bought the boat (used) in 2009, and I think I remember the original owner telling me that it had the original Carlisles (which were E's) on it. But now I am not so certain. I'll pull out my manuals later and see. The Four Winns Horizon 2005 manual doesn't specify - it just says to use the tires recommended in the trailer specs. I hope I dont need to plunk down 5 bills or more to get 4 more E's. I do like the one Maxxis E tire I have - at least I seen on line a lot of positive anecdotal info. I think that they are made in Taiwan.

IIRC, my 268 came with D's. I upped it to E's when I replaced all tires.

Thank you, and yes you are correct sir, it does list load range D. Previous owner must have put on Carlisle E's. Now my dilemma is what combination do I put my various tires in? Given that I have these 5 tires currently, how should I arrange them, and which do I keep as a spare, or should I buy something else? I have 2 new load D Marathons, 1 relatively new Load D Duro, 1 relatively new load E Maxxis, and 1 old load E Carlisle. I'm thinking exchange the old Carlisle with a new load D somebrand, and keep the Maxxis load E as the spare. That way all the tires used are load D's. For some reason it seems better to have all the same load range for even displacement and wear. That is not based on anything scientific. What do you all think?

On a side note, a lot of folk seem to have problems with carlisles. Two and half years later I have had no problems yet. Something that occured to me, is the temperature of the environment that the trailer is kept relevent? Most of the people on this forum have to winterise their boats due to sub zero temps, and was wondering if this may have a detrimental effect on the tyres. I realise that I have not had to tow the boat very far and I tow it at fairly low speeds ( less than 60 mph). But most of the nights where my boat is stored, the temperature is above freezing point even in winter.
Any thoughts on this matter would be apreciated

I had the exact same thing happen bringing her back from being winterized last season. I was a couple of months out of warranty but Carlise still replaced it since the tire wasnt punctured, just lost tread. Lost a taillight and my plate. Makes me nervous filling the D series up to 65psi tho

I was going on 8 years with the original tires and on borrowed time. Bought new Goodyear marathons last week before a failure happens. The side of the tire says made in china. I'll be knocking a wood for the next several years. They will be replaced in 3 to 5 years no matter what. I'm hoping no problems before then.

De-laminated a tire yesterday on the way home from a great Father's Day on the water....Lost most of the tread, but the tire stayed inflated.

So, on a 50 psi tire, what is considered "under-inflated"? 48psi? 40?
