I try not to trailer at night, but recently was caught out after dark. Brake lights, turn lights all worked on trailer on the pre-trip inspection in the daylight. When night fall came, I had no driving lights or frame lights. Brakes and turn lights still worked. What should I check? I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado with tow package. I bought an adaptor to plug in that has both a 4 prong and 5 prong connector. Thanks for any help.

Check to see if you have juice on the brown wire, which is supposed to be for the running lights. I would check first to see if there is flow at the adapter at the brown wire prong connector, and if so then check the brown wire further out on the trailer. You'll need a 5 dollar circuit light tester if you don't have one. It is a must for these damned trailer light issues. Also check your ground wires and fuses although these don't seem to fit your problem.

I am willing to bet, you blow a fuse. I changed over to sealed LEDs just for that reason.

With the towing package you get a fuse for each trailer function: running lights, right signal, left signal, brakes. Find the bad fuse and replaceit. If it goes out again, there is a short in the trailer running lights circuit.

Obie is right, what I did not mention is, and what happened to me is. When lunching the boat, the water was shorting out the trailer lights & poping the fuse.

If the fuse is good, move onto ground wires...

keep in mind there may be a ground wire and the trailer gets a ground from the ball on the hitch. I had problems constantly until I had to swap out the coupler. Boom, all issues solved. The coupler was pretty rusted and no matter how much I cleaned it, it was constantly causing my trailer lights to work and not work. I spent so much time on them and that seemed to be the solution.

The white wire from your connector is the ground wire, if you want to check it out.
