My trailer does not have that. Must be leaf spring suspension, yes??

Yes, my trailer is a tandem trailer with leaf springs.

Thanks for your comments; here is where I am now. The tires are Goodyear radials from Wally World. The shackles are not flipped but the trailer had not been driven for about a month before the trip but it was driven about 50 miles with the boat on it on Saturday afternoon and then I drove it without the boat on Sunday morning. I may put the boat in the water this winter (under a cover) so I will have another opportunity to tow the trailer without the boat and I wil let you know what happens. I am considering having the wheeel balanced and see if that helps.

Will post a follow up note if I have the wheels balanced.

I am curious. Please keep us informed. I've never had the tires balanced and the trailer rides smoothly at high speeds ( except when shackles flipped). Could you have a warped/bent wheel? My car has a bent alloy wheel that makes it shimmy at 51 mph or so. I'm too cheap to replace it.

I think you misunderstood. I was referring to my old Volvo sedan and it's shimmy at highway speeds. It is mild and I don't drive it often other than to office and back which is short and no highway. I think I take very good care of my boat and trailer and tow vehicle. Also, I try to do that as inexpensively as possible. I did fix the problem I had had with my trailer. I was just trying to see if the op maybe had a similar problem with the flipped shackles. Since he didn't I thought perhaps his trailer wheel was bent ( like my Volvo wheel).

So, as Steve Martin said, Excuse Me !

I'm back. I dropped the boat in the water last week and towed the trailer home empty at speeds up to 65 mph on the freeway. There was no hopping, etc. so I guess my previously reported hopping was due to the road surface at the other location.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Enjoy those turkeys.
