So the rubber boot that keeps the actuator brake piston waterproof is torn. I have a big trip coming up and I was just checking over the trailer and noticed it. I don't think its a show stopper as that part never gets submerged, but I would like to fix it. Is this a DIY, or should I take to to a trailer shop?

Anyone provide some insight?

Have to admit, since I'm new to trailering, I have no clue what an actuator brake piston is, and that he/she/it even has a rubber boot.

Cap'n standing by for some learnin' .....

Try to find out who the manufacturer of the actuator is. Then do some snooping around here for parts:

http://www.championtrailers.com
http://www.etrailer.com
http://www.easternmarine.com

I've bought parts from all of them rebuilding my 1994 Load Rite. All are pretty good. Champion Trailers has a lot of tech information and if you call them they will help with information if they are not too busy at the time you call.

I learned a lot putting in a new axle, springs, complete brake system, new roller bars, etc.
Even learned how to make drum brakes keep working in salt water....

The actuator is a tiedown engineering model 125. I found this

http://www.tiedown.com/pdf/b771.pdf

They don't seem to list the boot seperately, I guess I will have to call them
