Hello all. Just bought my 1st boat, 1989 four winns freedom. Has the 3.0 ford motor and the controversial omc outdrive. Inside and paint all new last year. Nock on wood, so far a great little boat. Im in kentucky for any other that boat close by. Look forward to learning more about my boat from u guy/galls. If anyone has any insite to my model boat please fill me in. I Would like to know more about it, being my 1st boat and all.

The 3.0 is a GM motor not Ford and was also used by Merc and Volvo. The OMC Cobra requires a mechanic who knows how to set them up. If set up right and maintained they work very well, they shift smoother than a comparable Merc Alpha. Best thing to do is find out if you have any ONC techs where you are. If not you can learn to do the maintenance yourself. The impeller replacement and the bellows replacement are a lot easier than on an Alpha. The shift csble adjustment is confusing at first but if you study how it works you can learn how to adjust it. I've had good luck with mine so far...
