I own a 1986 216 Santara Sport

The boat is all original......
4.3 V6 engine...Alpha outdrive
Entire upholstery and wood work is still factory.....

I run out of Savanna, Il on the Mississippi when I have the time.

Welcome, Wavy Davy! Good to have another in the forum, with a "previous model". I don't even know what a Santara is, so I'm gonna learn something new here - are you ready to post a picture? :D

Third pic down....best I can do.....I don't have a full pic of my own boat!

http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nkw=1 ... uddy+Cabin

edit- the above link is junk now....I'll see what I can do for some good pics--Wavy

My boat is biege with a white mooring cover and brown/tan pin striping. And it has a full camper top when I have it up.....looks like a school bus trawling down the river!

But that link should give a good general idea. The Santara Sport line was loosely promoted as a fishing boat.....probably because it had a rather large built in ice box under captain's seat that was cleverly disquised as a live well!!

For about the last two years, I'd been losing power steering fluid, but couldn't figure out where it was going. There were no signs of it in the bilge or leaks around the hoses. And the fluid loss wasn't consistent....sometimes the fluid level was low, other times no change.

About two months ago I put the boat in at the ramp, fired it up and noticed an oil slick behind the transom and the power steering pump was nearly dry. Then it dawned on me....the power steering cooler was leaking fluid into the cooling system. I pulled the cooler off and sure as heck there were two blisters on the inner fluid tube.

A new cooler from Mercury was about 350 bucks and a royal pain in the butt to change.

Can't complain a whole bunch.....the boat is 27 years old.

And the PS fluid is stable now.

Thanks Wavy. That's good info. Could deserve it's own post in the "Engine,Drive,Prop" section with a name like "Power Steering Oil Cooler Leak" so that future searchers can find it easy.
