Thats just it ! My steering is loose (10 degrees each side).

Any recommandation on what to go with to replace it ? I'm looking at hydraulic steering replacements. Not sure what would fit since most system I find are for outboard motors.

It would help if you add your boat & drive type to your signature. Looking back, I see you have a 1988 160 Freedoom with 3.0 OMC.

10deg play either way is not unusual, especially at 25 years old. You probably do not need to do anything.

But if it is bothering you, you could replace the Teleflex cable first, and also the Steering Helm unit if you really want it to be like new. There could also be play in the connection to the outdrive.

Yes, OMC Cobra drive with 3.0l engine.

As Murphy's law states, I found links to a steering option just after posting here.

I'll look into replacing the cable and helm too. Depending on cost, I'm might go either way.

Most of the play seems to be at the helm. An it's annoying to have the boat steer itself when I hit a wave from the side.

Looks like I'll be busy this winter !

Thanks

Yes, that's what I'll do. Found prices for a new teleflex cable and helm rack around 220$.

Nice part of owning a small bout is it fits in my garage. It'll be easy to work on it this winter.

I personally like the idea of getting a garage to fit the boat, not boat to fit the garage.
