Heys guys, doing some comparing with a buddies 1988 sundowner and my same year Horizon same 4.3 motors. I noticed his exhaust bellow coming into the out drivers solid with no slits on the bottom where mine had consist holes in the bottom of my rubber bellow. Anybody know the difference?

one has the drop out holes for if the drive ever has a clog and the other has no bypass slats..

They added the slots about 20 years ago. I figure they were added so that it doesn't hold water in there when the boat is pulled out.

The original style did not have the slits, but all the ones made after a certain date do. I heard it was to reduce back pressure but who knows, the water draining may be the reason as well.

Thanks fellas, always a great help. Boats were the same year scared me for a bit.

Your buddy could cut a couple holes in the bottom of his exhaust bellows if he wanted to.

But let me add:
The upper bellows (Drive Shaft Bellows) MUST remain water tight. Any signs of cracking in the upper bellows means that it should be replaced.
