Just picked this boat up from a friend yesterday. Its a 1989 190 Freedom with a 4.3 and OMC sterndrive. Been around boats my whole life but this is my first one ive owned.

Motor was rebuilt recently, interior has been redone. Boat was painted black a few years ago (not perfect but not terrible). The tower was added by my friend along with a full sound system. Its a very solid boat and I look forward to some wakeboarding/relaxing on the lake.

I'm looking into getting a 4 blade stainless prop for getting out of the water easier. Right now its a 3 blade aluminum 14 pitch I believe. What do I need to know to order the correct prop to work with the OMC stern drive?

Thanks guys!

Heres a few pictures

14" is most likely your diameter. Your Pitch is probably 17 or 19 or 21 inch.

It is good to post the following to get prop recommendations:
.. Current Prop pitch, diameter and condition (Aluminum)
.. RPM at WOT (Wide open throttle) with boat trimmed properly.
.. Recommended maximum RPM for your engine (4400-4800?)
.. Speed at WOT, using a GPS
.. Load in boat at time of test, including fuel level
.. What is important: Speed vs hole-shot vs fuel consumption (Hole Shot)
.. Drive Type (1989 OMC)

Thanks, that is very helpful. I haven't had the boat on the water myself yet, just been behind it when my friend owned it. I will gather some information this weekend and report back.

A 14.5x19 was probably what it came with. My '88 H-200 with the 4.3 came with that prop but it wouldn't pull max rpm so I put on a 15x17. With that it performs better.

You are correct. It has a 14.5 x 19.

WOT with trim- 4500ish
Not sure on recommended max RPM, Its a rebuilt 4.3, lower hours.
Speed was 42 mph at WOT trimmed up a bit
Load was 3 people, full tank, coolers wakeboards etc
More worried about holeshot for wakeboarding/ more control at lower speeds. Normally between 19-24 mph for riding

My friend has a 14.5 x 17 hes going to let me try.

If you go to the 15x17 that will probably put you at 4900 and it will improve hole shot for sure.

Maximum recommended RPM for most Carburated models is 4400-4800, and most Fuel Injected models are 4600-5000. So you are fine, but if hole shot is important, then that 17p will do better. Glad you have one to try out before buying.
