On the smaller boats the blower is usually mounted up against the transom, mine is on the port side. The blower is supposed to draw air from the lower part of the bilge and exhaust it out the side (or rear) vent. If the boat has directional vents on the gunnels, then the one connected to the blower should face aft, and the one on the other side that draws in fresh air should face forward. This helps natural ventilation when the boat is moving forward because the air will tend to be pushed into the intake vent and pulled out the exhaust vent. Some boats have the vents on the gunnels, some have them on transom. Most probably do not have directional vents but I think that they should, and the gunnel mounting is better for creating natural ventilation by the forward movement of the boat.
