Hey guys I picked up my second four winns in august. It is a 1989 211 liberator with a 460 king cobra. I know you guys dont like the 460 but i am a ford guy and plan on making some decent horse power with it this winter. here are some pics.

First Off Nice boat. It looks to be in excellent condition!

Secondly, We are all not Ford haters... The problem with your setup is that alot of the parts are obsolete. I would think twice about making serious horsepower. Just give it a good tuneup and live with it. I believe the engine coupler is one of the obsolete items and too much HP will chew it up in no time!
there are others here that know alot about your setup and will chime in.

Oh Yeah Welcome Aboard!

Thanks, It is in very good condition. Does anyone know what prop would be a good all around prop for this set up? I am currently running a 19 pitch 3 blade stainless. I was thinking about a 21 pitch 3 blade stainless. I am not sure though. Also what do these boats usually run with this set up. I am hoping to run in the low to mid 60's. Is that possible with a stock set up? If thats possible I will leave the motor alone and just use it as is, maybe a few bolt on parts like intake, headers and ignition parts. Thanks again

Nice and clean Liberator you have there. Good to have another member posting to the Liberator forum. I have an 88 261 with the 460's and have only been out in it once since I got it in June, because I work out of the country. I had mine checked out and serviced and it ran great. It's my second boat. My first, I still have it is a 19 foot flatbottom v-drive with an older, rebuilt 390. The Liberator is just as cool and the wife likes it much better. I told her it's a fishing boat and a sport boat all in one. The forum posts are pretty slow right now but should pick up in a few months. Lots of good folks here, and alot of info for your boat is available. Look forward to hearing about your possible engine mods.

Thanks, I only have been out on mine twice and love everything about it. It planes out fast and handle the rough water really well. I love pulling into the sand bars and everyone giving me complements. I almost bought a 221 with a 454 but I love the styling of the 211's.

Thank you!! I read in another posting that a guy with the same outdrive as mine is running bravo props. Can you run mercruiser props on king cobra outdrives?

Same - same
15 tooth spline 4 3/4 gearcase

OMC 800/King Cobra
Mercury Bravo I

You can use either

I have had both the 800 and now the King Cobra and had the Bravo I Props on them.
They seem to work just fine, but if you speak with a Prop guy, they will tell you the best peak performance for an OMC is the factory ones.
They are getting hard to find. I get everything from Salt Lake City.

Here are the exhaust manifolds.

http://marineengineparts.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page466.html

You can get couplers redone from a 454 from a couple of different compaines.

The only part I have not seen, is the Flywheel housing. They are on ebay every now and then.

Yeah! Baby that flywheel housing because if you damage it, you'll be scrounging for one, or having a machine shop make you a new one, .......which, I think wouldn't be all that hard.....but wouldn't be cheep!!

If I had been able to find manifolds and a coupler.......I might still have the mighty 460 inside!!

I don't think it would be too bad. Just mod up standard bell housing and try to get the legs close side to side.
Up and down can be shimed out.

The large tube is just a grease cover after the first 1 inch for strenghth.

211 nice boat , let me tell you the 460 has a 3" crank and 2 1/2 " rod that makes it the best bottom end in any production engine as far as the other parts go they are starting to pop up and even some after market stuff , check omc on ebay lots of parts if you ever need exhaust manifolds and can't find fords I can turn you on to exhaust port plates that will bolt you up to the chevy manifolds , don't be afraid to add more power to that out drive I know of 2 running 540's no problems yet but here is an after thought if a part moves it is concidered consumable just stay on a good maintainence plan and hey the more you throw at it the more it cost having 1142 hp 460 in a 1981 zephyr launching at 5-6 k I know. I wouldn't change the 460's in my 261 for nutin.
