Question for all you guys that slip your boats.
What is the easiest way to clean the crud off of and polish the stainless steel props?
What products work the best?
Anything work to help keep it from building up?

I was told by someone to use muriatic acid.

My props are coated with Propspeed - no polishing required.

I bottom paint mine with non-copper based paint, 2 coats. It last me almost all year. It just depends on how bad your growth is.

I'm in fresh water so the growth is not bad.
The previous owner never bothered to clean the slime off of the props and its dried on there. Just a thin layer.

Propspeed looks like a great product. Something to keep in mind for the future.

I've been reading that vinegar can take it off. I may try that.
For now I'm going to attack it with some scotchbrite pads.

Jeff these Mercruiser props look like crap...they aren't polished stainless like my Volvo props were. I'd imagine just a scotchbrite pad to get them cleaned up? Mine don't have any growth after sitting in Lake Michigan for a season, just discoloration.

I don't expect them to shine like a mirror, just a little less dull than they are currently. I know they will stay clean once I do it because unlike the former owner I actually take the boat out of the slip and run it.

Propellor repair shops offer refinishing, polishing, etc., that would be a way of making a fresh start followed by routine maintenance.

I usually clean mine up in the spring with mag wheel polish. Mothers is the brand that I am using now.

This isn't a recent picture, but it shows the result...

That looks like a true, polished, SS prop, not the ones found on Bravo III's

Correct, Enertia's are polished SS, BIII's are not.

So, what about something to get Barnacle remnants off.. Boat was in salt enough to get them, but will now be freshwater, and that won't be an issue..
