I have my boat pulled and noticed that the underneath of the swim platform looks like it could use a paint job. Has anyone ever done this before and do I just use bilge paint? I will probably prep it with dawn and bleach followed up by the pressure washer and then use a brush and roller to apply it. Any advice and tips would be appreciated. |

Under the swim platform? Not submerged? Any exterior grade house paint from walmart will outlast your ownership of the vessel. |

Timber or fibreglass? Flow coat with MEKP is the best solution for 'glass... |

My reply to deafwish got deleted somehow but it is a fiberglass swim platform. Flow coat might be the answer because it will create a much smoother surface than the gel coat that is under there now (I would assume). I was concerned if I could put flow coat (a polyester) over gel coat (an epoxy) but it sounds like it will be fine as long as it is scuffed up a bit (see link). I don't even think I will have to do this based on how rough the gel coat is under the swim platform as it is. Thanks. http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/method ... ating.html |

They make marine paints that are diy user friendly like Brightsides, why not use something that is designed to be used on fiberglass. Its not the same as painting a fence in the yard LOL. Proper prep is the whole deal. |
