I'm installing the PrecisionStar GPS speedo by PerfectPass on my boat. So I decided to use the hole in the transom from the old speedo tube to run a water temperature sensor, which works out nice because I will only have to drill one additional hole to mount the sensor. The problem is, after the old speedo plate is removed, there will be two holes that I need to close up. Do I just fill them with marine sealant?

I was going to use this: http://www.lowes.com/pd/LOCTITE-Marine- ... /999901423

It is for below water-level use. Another thought was to fill them with sealant and then put the stainless screws back in to close them up. Any thoughts on the best way to handle this?

Thanks!

I'd mix up some marine epoxy filler and force it into the holes, that is more permanent than using sealant and screws.

Thanks, Lou. Something like JB Marine Weld or Marine Tex? I have both. I would probably use the JB since it dries white, if that is a good choice.

I thought JB was more for metal, but marine tex would work. I have some expoxy filler I got from:
www.rotdoc.com that works great. It is a reinforced epoxy filler that really lasts. I have a some holes that I filled 10 years ago and it still is in there, no deterioration.

Get yourself a little kit of west system at west marine. If there is wood in your transom marine tex will not soak into the wood like epoxy.Thicken it with a little cabosil.
You will never have to worry about it again
