Greetings -- I am renaming my boat. I used a heat gun to get off the old name but you can still see the name in the boat. Is there an easy way to get the "shadow" off the boat before I put on the new name. I use Goo Gone and it got off a lot of the adhesive, but there is still the underlining name.

Any help would be appreciated,

Scott

I ended up doing a 1000 - 1500 grit wetsand and followed up with meguires oxidation remover on the orbital and got it off. Worked well for the prior name shadow but I also updated the "248 Vista" logo on each side and that still has a very slight haze. It's so light/faint that nobody has ever noticed it.

Thanks for the reply... I was thinking along those lines... I'll post a picture when I get it done. :)

A little time and UV exposure will help with the process also.

The important thing is, did you follow protocol when renaming the boat?

We'll be renaming our new '88 235 Sundowner before the season starts next year. I really appreciate this thread as I was not aware of the protocol! 8)

nautical superstition is that renaming a boat is very bad. True story: I worked for a few years as a commercial fisherman, the boat i worked on was purchased from a guy who bought a larger boat, right after this guy bough this boat he renamed it, first trip out it went right to the bottom.

As an added bonus you get to drink... Or at least you have a new reason to drink. :) Hold it, first we spayed the bow with champagne, then we drank.... PROTOCOL. :D
