Greetings -- What do you use to clean your out drive and SS props? Part of the outdrive is seems like it is plastic the other part seems like aluminum. This is the VP 5.7 engine... with DP.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

p.s. It look like I'll have to do some scrubbing to get all the barnacles off.

If you are in salt water, barnacles are a problem, they can get everywhere, even in the folds of the bellows and inside the water intakes. Most of the cleaners that remove them are acids, some are very strong and toxic, I used one called Algex which is probably the least toxic of all of them. You wear rubber gloves and goggles, and spray it on and let it sit for a while. Then scrub with a brush and wash off. Be careful not to get it on your skin or eyes. This will not damage aluminum, which is important, some of the other cleaners are so harsh that they do etch aluminum. They work well on a fiberglass hull but are too strong for the outdrive.

Hydrochloric acid is the solution. It is a highly corrosive, strong mineral acid and has major industrial uses.

Just do like I do. Don't ever put the boat in the water, and it'll stay like new.

There Brent.
