Well, I now have a new "scratch" in my gelcoat too. It's above the water line but it looks pretty bad so I need to fix it. It all happened last week on a windy day while trying to enter a boat lift. The scratch is about 6 inches long with the deepest part being about 1 inch long. There appears to be some dark-colored material just underneath the gelcoat (fiberglass?) - see photo. I'm relatively handy but does anyone know of a Step-by-Step process I could read just to make sure I don't make matters worse?

Thanks in advance.

In such a visible location on such a new boat, I'd have a pro do it. But I'm sure you could give it a go with some patch from Spectrum.

Just got an estimate from a pro and he quoted it at $850 because it will need to be color-matched for a large section of the side of the boat. Over the next few years, I'll probably get more scratches so I'm not keen on forking-out that kind of money for each and every one. Therefore, I'm looking for a quick "patch job"... Wish me luck!
