I have never actually cleaned the bilge of our vista but I know that it's important for maintenance. I puchased some bilge cleaner from West Marine. what is the correct process for cleaning the bilge? The West Marine guys told me to just dump it in and let it stay there. The bilge will pump it out when it needs to. Thoughts?

That is how I do it. I would just dump it in and use a long handled brush to scrub the bilge area and then take her out for a spin. After an hour or so of sloshing around, I would point the bow way up and then turn the bilge pump on. Word of caution: be careful using the brush in the bilge area because I broke my bilge pump one time when I hit it with the brush too hard.

Depending on the size of your bilge, you may want to lay something down over the automatic bilge pump switch so the cleaner has some time to do its job before being pumped out. On my 21' Horizon it doesn't take much to trigger the pump.
