What is the best way to repair small tears in the vinyl? Nothing where people sit, but areas where people can see... Do I have to get the whole panel replaced?

Thanks

I paid some vinyl repair guy to come out to my boat and he worked up some liquid vinyl stuff and smeared it on the tear and then smoothed it out and then used a heat gun to bind it. Then he got out a small paint gun with compressor and spray painted the area to match. This was a few years ago and no tears have reappeared but it will mildew easily where he used the paint gun. I guess it was worth the $250 that I paid him to fix the 5 small nicks and 1 large one.

The headrest on my 99 Horizon 200 was splitting at the seam - took it to a shop for repair. They said at a minimum they would have to replace 1 panel for $125. For $275 they would redo the whole piece - that is what I opted for.

My previous Sundowner had the sunsport seating; with the pseudo headrests on the rear seat The vinyl split on all the seams on the "headrests". Looked like I was going to have to get new pieces stitched in to replace them; not something I was really happy to get done, as the vinyl with the correct "Taupe" colour is not available in the UK ( in fact, there is nothing anything like it here !). The upholstery shop I took it to managed to stretch the vinyl and restitch it; looked like new! If the damage is near to the stitch seams in your panel, this is something to consider.

I used a dyid v inyl repair kit to repair a small tear on one of my seats. I had a hard time matching the color - my theory is that the color of the patch changes in the process of heating it. Apart from color, the texture and repair itself is practically invisable.
