Anyone know of a good product for cleaning the bottom of boat? Our lakes tend to turn the white hull a yellow color and I want to clean it up before I put it away for the winter.

Mary Kates On-Off works great.

Where rubber gloves, dont get it in your eyes or on your skin and dont let it get on any painted or aluminum surfaces.

I will need to do this while it is on the trailer so sounds like this isn't such a good one to use. Any others?

I have had good luck with Davis FSR.

That looks like a good solution and easy to apply. Is it safe if it would happen to get on the trailer? Looks like West Marine carries it so I may head over there and pick it up.

Can't say for sure. It is an acid, but you do not have to use gloves with it. It is a gel so it sticks to the hull. When you rinse be sure to use plenty of water and I doubt you will have problems. I have yet to use it on my current boat with a painted trailer, but I had no problems previously with my aluminum trailer.

The description says it is safe for white painted surfaces though.

I use Mary Kates with the boat on the trailer. I should have been more specific, don't get in on full strength on painted surfaces. I always wet the trailer in the area I'm working on and apply it with a wash mitt full strength to the hull and rinse. I do about a 3rd of the length of the boat at a time.

Oh by the way, I used the Mary Kate gel before and it didn't seem to work as good.

I think you will be surprised what the Starbright hull cleaner will do! For tougher stains I have used toilet bowl cleaner too! I do have some nasty "cement like" patches on my hull that I need to deal with also somebody recommended "slimey grimey" for these.

If it's just yellowing, i would try the Starbright product first. Get a cheap spray bottle and just start spraying from the front to back. Be prepared to wash off the boat and trailer after it has run off. I keep a soft long handled brush handy to help in a few places.

Is yours this dirty?

I had to use Starbrite hull cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner and CLR to get her semi-clean.

Depending on the severity , you may have to use several products.

Mine is not that bad, but I am kind of anal about my boat being clean.

Have been using this on my boats for the past four years with great results. Buy it at Menards. Wet the trailer like other stuff and rinse with plenty of water. Does the same thing as "marine" cleaners for about 25% of the cost.

How bout a "after" pic Milhaven?

I've had great luck with Ducky's getting the "browning/yellowing" off the side. Not as good on the bottom.

Ducky's is weird...I'll spray on...let it sit for bout 20 secs and wipe. Never looks like it did much good but then I come back around and the white is whiter? Almost like a delayed bleach action. I won't complain cause it does work
