This is about as good as it gets in North Atlanta. We haven't had snow like this in 10 years.

do you have a ham radio on board Mike? I've got a 2 meter I would like to hook up on board. Do you think a marine antenna for a marine radio would be close enough to the frequency to work?

It's possible but I personally wouldn't take the chance. Most 2M antennae will be tuned for a center of about 146MHz; the marine frequencies are ~10MHz higher. With all the small 2M antennae available and the plethora of mounting options, why not just add a 2nd antenna? You can then have both radios working at the same time. I'd even give one of those candy kiss antennas a try if I could find something metallic to stick it to.

I've never operated maritime mobile, since my hands are usually full with kids, tubes, traffic, etc. I'd like to try operating HF from the boat though. Table Rock Lake crosses 3 counties, so it could make for a fun county hunting trip.

Sure. Here are a couple of antenna ideas:

Very small and light magnet mount (scroll down to VUM-201): http://www.opektech.com/Mobile_Antennas.html

Homebrew: http://home.comcast.net/~buck0/Kb1dig2m.htm

You could also call Associated Radio at 800-497-1457. They're local to me. They're small, very helpful, and can help you figure out a solution. They sell that Opek antenna too.

Powler,
Those are baby crabs that are found on this beach every year. There are thousands of them piled on each other. I took that photo standing next to them and they are all running for their holes. There are so many you can hear there legs crunching on each other. This is in Nantucket sound.

Rob - I was stationed at Fort Detrick, MD just outside of Baltimore, Wash. DC during the winter of 95-96, one of the worst on record, until this year, I think they have broken those records. It was crazy snow that winter and I grew up in Sheboygan, WI where we got tons of lake affect snow every winter. Right around Christmas time there was a huge snowfall that took 3 days to dig out. I'll never forget that week it was crazy.

yes sadly we topped that officially. We have had 80 inches this season, on contrast, Buffalo NY has only had 65 so far. Apparently the closet record from 95-96 was 62 inches, so thats out of the water.

It took 2 days to get out int he first hit, and then another 2 after that. My wife work is on a Baltimore City schedule and today is her first day back in over 7 days! None the less this is absolutely nuts.

This makes 2/2. Detroit had the worst winter on record last year, now Baltimore has done it. Awesome.

I just got back from a snowmobile Trip across wisconsin and Michigan. 1100 miles all done. What a blast! If you like boating you'd like snowmobile riding too. We left Hayward wi went to copper harbor mi then around to Marquette and back to Hayward. Trails in mi are just awesome! Best anywhere I think. The groomers do a terrific job up there! Even so, I'm dying to get on the water!
